posted 04-15-10 17:31 ET (US) 1 / 18 Welcome to Caesar IV Heaven philipgi. Have you tried changing the text size? That has worked for some people. Hold down the control key and use the mouse scroll wheel to make the text larger or smaller. The 'I agree' button may become available. |
posted 04-29-10 12:25 ET (US) 2 / 18 I am having the same problem on Windows 7. When you run the setup application, the 'I agree' button is there, but it's grayed out so one is not able to choose it. Changing the font size will not help. The button is there and visible, just not operable. I've already tried changing the compatibility of every application file on the disk to Windows XP Service Pack 3. I'll try the others to see what's what. |
posted 05-16-10 12:19 ET (US) 3 / 18 Try scrolling to through the lisence language. It appears that you are forced to at least scroll through the text before the checkbox is opened. |
posted 06-23-10 16:41 ET (US) 4 / 18 I finally used Windows 95 simulation to get Caesar IV to load on with Windows 7, but it crashes a lot, will not let me see things like a specific 'exotic market' or set controls for specific warehouses or set a specific 'basic market' to 'no plebs. My biggest issue tho is the crashing..any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 X64 Ultimate on a 64 bit system and I've attempted to stabilize by setting the dual processor 'affinity' so the the game uses only one processor. Thanks. |
posted 06-23-10 21:31 ET (US) 5 / 18 Welcome to Caesar IV Heaven salsarow. That sounds a bit like a video issue. First though, have you installed the 1.2 patch? You can find the version number in the top right corner of the main menu screen. Second, have you tried XP compatibility? I would have thought that would be a lot more successful then Win 95! Third, what video card do you have in your computer, or do you have integrated graphics? [This message has been edited by kach (edited 06-23-2010 @ 09:32 PM).] |
posted 06-29-10 16:11 ET (US) 6 / 18 thank you for the welcome! my son the geek assures me that the video card is more than enough at 256..the game will load with Win 95 compatibility, but will not let me edit the ground texture..it just sore of glazes the grown a sort of pastel flat green or white..so I tried running it under windows XP serv pk 3..but clearly failed..tried using Win2000 compat..still fails to work properly, finally back down to Win98 compat and it runs..but not well..crashes a lot and that texture problem is back, only with a change..the pastels have now been joined by a black color on the ground.. I'm really disappointed if this Win7 upgrade means I lose my pastime..but life goes on..think we can get a Caesar V out? I'll take any suggestions you have at salsarow @ gmail . com |
posted 06-30-10 06:55 ET (US) 7 / 18 Well it definitely sounds like a video issue. Have you tried an earlier/later video card driver? If your game isn't patched to 1.2, it is definitely worth installing the patch because several graphics problems were fixed with version 1.2. The patch for the boxed retail US English version is here. |
posted 06-30-10 14:53 ET (US) 8 / 18 I have not tried different drivers..will get with geek son on that..but the patch 1.2 is installed Also, to get the game to load from the discs I had to load DirectX and other parts first. Finally..I'm on a 64 bit machine..but again, it was fine with XP, same computer. |
posted 07-02-10 08:46 ET (US) 9 / 18 Hello everyone. I just joined the Forum. I've played Caesar II and III, but just recently got Caesar IV. I just wanted to comment that I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) and Caesar IV installed fine and plays fine. I mention this because the gentleman mentioned that he had problems with Win 7 64-bit. I can't comment on that, but wanted to assure future readers that it works fine on Win 7 32-bit for me. Also, as someone else pointed out, when you start the install, the 'I Agree' button is grayed out. You have to physically scroll to the bottom of the license agreement and then 'I Agree' will become activated. Then you can select that and proceed with the installation. If you look closely, there is text at the top of the agreement that tells you that you have to scroll down. I'm looking forward to enjoying this site and forum. posted 07-12-10 21:56 ET (US) 11 / 18 Just wanted to add something I found that helped with my game issues on Win7. When you create or edit game scenes and later uninstall Caesar IV, the uninstall does not remove the files created for those games. You have to search your C drive and delete those files or when you reload Caesar IV any corruptions that were saved under those names will pop right back into your reload. I hope this is understandable. |
posted 07-14-10 03:02 ET (US) 12 / 18 Thanks salsarow. That is useful to know. And hello to Dom Fontana. |
posted 07-31-10 15:40 ET (US) 13 / 18 Hard to believe, but when Win7 last updated, the game quit working. So uninstalled it, erased all game related files, defragged the drive and set to load it again. Have now tried on all 'compatibilities' and get the same error on every one: 'cyclic redundancy check D:data2.cab'. Not sure what that means..but in the process of research ran across an interesting question about scratches on the Caesar IV CD. Checked..in the years I've used this disc it has earned some scratches. So I'm going to order me a brand new disc and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted once the new set arrives. Again, I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64 one a 64 bit Dell SMF with a Conroe Core2 Duo. |

posted 12-06-10 20:41 ET (US) 15 / 18 Hey, Ive just recently installed Caesar IV on my computer. (Windows7) it installed fine but when i try and play it, it comes up with 'Please remove disc from current CD/DVD drive and insert the original ' Caesar IV Caesar IV release.exe' disc in drive F:. I have no idea what it means. We have a modem stick which in My Computer says that it is connected to the F drive but then i take it out the F drve icon disappears. Please help. I would really like to play it. [This message has been edited by ToriGirl (edited 12-06-2010 @ 08:43 PM).] |
posted 12-31-10 10:47 ET (US) 16 / 18 Hi all, just wanted to say that C4 runs well on my WIN7 64bit Home Premium. No compatibility modes, I did install the update though but the game did work before. Started playing again the last few days. My copy is purchased from D2D, would have prefered to get it from steam . Did you guys use the DX version that comes with the game? posted 12-31-10 14:22 ET (US) 17 / 18 I installed Caesar IV on my new computer yesterday. I applied the 1.2 patch and then I updated DirectX to get the missing files needed for 9.0c. The new OS is Windows 7 Professional (64). I didn't install to the default directory, so I don't have to worry about finding the saved games. It seems to be working, but I haven't done more than load a saved game. Edit: I should probably mention that I have the original US retail version that came in a box.
