The plot follows the adventures of Guts, an orphaned mercenary warrior on his quest for revenge. Since Berserk ' s premiere, over three hundred and fifty chapters have been released in Japan. An anime adaptation, produced by OLM, premiered.

This is an action game in which players assume the roles of mercenary characters battling large armies in frenetic melee-style combat. From a third-person perspective, players use swords and magic attacks to kill dozens of enemy soldiers, demons, mutant animals, and trolls. Enemies are sent flying across the battlefield with each strike, and combat is highlighted by cries of pain and large blood-splatter effects. Some attack moves result in enemies bursting into limbs and body parts. Cutscenes sometimes depict characters getting stabbed in the eye, or sliced in the abdomen. The game includes some suggestive/sexual material: characters with exposed breasts and/or buttocks(though nipples and genitalia are obscured); one scene depicts a man fondling a woman's breast through her nightgown, as she moans loudly. The word “sh*t” appears in the dialogue.
